Amarilla Golf

Amarilla Golf is a relatively modern neighbourhood, established in the 1980s.  It was purpose built along the fairways of an impressive 18 hole golf course, Amarilla Golf and Country Club, which sits dramatically on a section of ruggedly beautiful coastline.  The resort has enjoyed steady expansion over the years, but was significantly enhanced during the 2000s when Marina San Miguel was constructed by the owners of the golf course.  Located in the municipality of San Miguel de Abona, only 10 minutes drive from Reina Sofia airport, and 15 minutes from Los Cristianos, Amarilla Golf is, quite understandably, a popular choice for residents and visitors alike. Originally consisting of '7' individual complexes, which were named according to the signs of the zodiac; Aries, Virgo, Libra, Gemini, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius, the resort offers extensive options for those looking to purchase a property. Apart from Pebble Beach there is also a selection of additional apartment blocks, including 'Pinehurst', 'Augusta Park', 'Palm Gardens', 'Ocean Ridge' and 'Royal Marina Golf.   'Sun Bay Villas' is made-up of a mixture of apartments and villas -and 'Island Golf Villas' is purely a selection of villas. Then there is 'Fairways', which offers a selection of bungalows, along with the complexes of 'La Quinta Heights' and 'La Quinta', both of which offer a choice of bungalows and villas. Last, but by no-means least, is 'Palm Ridge', a development of linked villas. The 18-hole, par 72, Amarilla Golf Course is 5,891 metres long, and meanders all the way down to the seafront, overlooking the Marina San Miguel, before undulating its way through this peaceful residential area to the final home run. (Golfers should be aware that one of the par 3 holes has no fairway, but one has to cross an 'ocean' before reaching the small green!) Apart from the main course, there is also a 9-hole 'pitch-and-putt' practicing course. A once isolated coastal pathway, which over the years has been populated with a selection of bars and restaurants, runs alongside the ocean’s edge from Amarilla all the way to the pretty fishing village of Los Abrigos some 5 kilometres to the east. A flotilla of luxury yachts are now moored in the magnificent Marina San Miguel, which was once a modest harbour where local fishermen would cast their nets and rods from the rocks in the hope of bringing home their supper.  Amarilla Golf offers a number of local bars, along with a handful of quality restaurants, and it is also linked by road to the neighbouring resort of Golf Del Sur, a larger developed area offering another 18 hole golf course and an array of bars, restaurants, hotels and extensive facilities.Read More
